Solved: Stuck in About:Blank mud - HJT file

1122 Views 11 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Flrman1
I have been fighting my browser (IE) for two days now, I'm glad I've found you, hope you can help, I'm about ready to throw this whole thing out the window. My browser is holding me hostage. I get redirected to this
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\search.html page which is blank, and I hit home page and I get the now infamous About:Blank. I have tried spybot, ad-aware, Norton's all updated, and now Hijackthis. After fighting with this for a while I thought I would just restore to an earlier day, It won't let me - on reboot it says can not restore to this date. I've tried several dates, and it won't let me go back to December, and then there's this Hijacked by New.Net stuff. I don't know if all this is connected, I suspect it is. Below is My Hijackthis file. Would appreciate any help I can get. If anymore info is needed please let me know.
Thank you :)
From foggy Cape Cod

Hi tccac

Welcome to TSG! :)

I have merged your new thread with the original thread. Please make all posts regarding this matter in this thread.
Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall New.Net (NewDotNet). If that doesn't work do the following:

First Click here to download LspFix

You may not need it, but go ahead and download it just in case.

Now go here and scroll to the bottom of the page to Precedure 4 and download and run the New.Net uninstaller.

If you lose your internet connection after running the New.Net uninstaller, Run LspFix, and click Finish. (Don't do anything else)

That should restore the internet connection.

Restart your computer after you have removed New.Net then rescan with Hijack This and post a fresh log and I'll help you remove the about:blank hijack.

I am about to sign off for the night so we will have to finish this in the morning.

First you need to unzip (extract) Hijack This and move it to a permanent folder. It will not function properly when run from the zip folder or the Temp folder.

You need to create a new folder in My Documents and name it Hijack This. Right click on the HijackThis.zip file and choose "Extract all" and extract it to the Hijack This folder you created. That way it can create and restore backups if needed. HJT will store the backups in the same location that it is run from.

Post another Hijack This log after you have done that. Also do the following:

Copy the contents of the quote box to Notepad.
Name the file Appinit.bat
Save as type All Files
Save on the Desktop.

Reg save "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows" windows1.hiv
ren windows1.hiv windows.txt
Double click on Appinit.bat
This will create a file on the desktop named windows.txt
Attach the windows.txt file here to your next post please. Don't copy and paste it.
----------------

Which version of XP are you running? Pro or Home?
Also which file system? FAT32 or NTFS? Check the properties of the C Drive in my computer to get the file system.

First you need to turn SpySweeper's realtime protection and monitoring off until this removal is complete as it will interfere with the changes you are trying to make.

Go here and download Adaware SE. Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files, but don't run it.

Also click here to download CWSinstall.exe. CWSinstall.exe file and it will install CWShredder, but don't run it yet either.

Copy these instructions to notepad and save them to your desktop for easy access as you will need it to refer to in safe mode.

Restart into Safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

Do all of the following in safe mode:

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"
