You need to upgrade to SP2 for this and other security reasons . . to fix this specific issue, go to services and set Windows Messenger service to disabled and click Stop.
That should kill it.

It is disabled already. I went into system and it says SP2......The startup type is disabled, theres also a manual option should this be on disabled as well ?simpswr said:Right click on My Computer . . select Manage . . ARe you sure you have SP2 . . Windows Messenger is disabled in SP2 and must be started intentionally.
Trying this RIGHT NOWunbidden said:1. Click on the Start button and select Run.
2. Type
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
in the text box and click OK. You will see a progress bar appear shortly as it deletes its files and it will then ask you to reboot. After the reboot the program will be gone.
I suggest you cut and paste it to Start/Run...to make sure you don't mistype!
Issue SOLVED. Thanks for the help guys :up:simpswr said:Good catch by Mrcobra . . I wrongly assumed it was Messenger Service . . I think his fix will get it for you.
In M/S infinate wisdom, they devised three separate messenger programs . . Messenger Service, Windows Messenger . . and MSN Messenger . .
but then what do you expect from a system that has you press Start to turn off? ?
