Hi ILuvmySailor

Copy or print out the following commands since you will need to close down all your programs,
Start>Run
Key in:
regsvr32 urlmon.dll

If the links still do not open a browser repeat the process with these additional .dlls:
Start>Run
Key in:
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll

You should see a message for each .dll saying if the command was successful or not so wait for it.

Let us know if this works or not.

With all windows closed.
Start>Run
Key in:
"C:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe" /reg

Verify this is the path that msimn.exe is located and be sure to include the quotes.

Then open Outlook Express,
Tools>Options>General tab,
and verify Outlook Express is your default messaging program at the bottom of the page.

If the above does not work, we will take a look at your file types.

Have you installed any new software before this started occurring?

when I tryed to run that it didn't do anything the box just dissapeared. In outlook express under the general tab at the bottom it just says this application is your default mail handler. The only thing that I know of that I have downloaded recently is Kazaa. I just can't figure out what is wrong.

OE is a pain. using the xp disc i deleted it for good. If you want to use that ******* try uninstalling and reinstalling it from the xp disc (you use xp?)
you can do that from the upgrade option.

if that doesnt work try one of these more extreme measures:
(after trying a system resrore i suppose)

1. put in the xp disc
2. go to start /run
3. type: sfc /scannow
4. this will reload critical system .dll files

method 2

do a dirty install of xp
just do the updrade and reload it over your current install
recently i couldnt get IE to load (the other ******* program) and
the dirty install is what fixed me.

recommendation

NEVER use IE or OE again99.99% of your problems with your computer will magically and forever dissappear. These 2 programs (that are intrinsically just fine) are without question the most pernicious trojan and spyware traps you can concievably use. I don't even want to go into the crap i went through with different problems caused by using outlook...some of them were quite complex. Either learn how to completely redesign ot or stop using it!

hope this helps

Open My Computer or Windows Explorer and click on
Tools > Folder Options > File types tab,
check under each of these file types to see if their settings show the following:

Open My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types tab
URL:File Transfer Protocol
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" %1
URL:Gopher Protocol
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome %1
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome
URL: CallTo Protocol
rundll32.exe msconf.dll,CallToProtocolHandler %1
URL:MailTo Protocol
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /mailurl:%1

Check each url one at a time:
Click on each file type,
click edit,
click on Open,
click edit
to see what the settings are for each one.
