Recently did a Windows XP Home repair (long process, followed by 63 updates). After doing it, a malady I used to have in IE6 is now present in IE7. Instead of showing pictures, many sites show nothing (blank) or just the frame with the dreaded red "X" in a little box. I have tried opening IE with no add ons, have tried setting the security so low that anything should work, etc. to no avail.

What's causing this and how can I correct it? BTW, I also use Firefox and that has no problems showing the pictures.

could this be down to allowing an active x
Don't think so. As I say, at one point I set virtually everything under the Security tab to "enable", including scripts and Active X controls, then revisited a site that has never shown the pictures, and it still didn't.

Rummer: Turns out it wasn't "allowing" and ActiveX, it was a missing ActiveX. In desperation I called Microsoft Support yesterday, expecting to have to pay the $35 support fee. To my delight, they regarded it as an installation issue (for IE 7), so the support was free. Apparently during the repair of Windows, the ActiveX that allowed Adobe Macromedia Player to work was zapped. I had downloaded the player again, but somehow missed telling the browser it was OK to download the ActiveX that comes with it. Microsoft took control of my PC, removed the player then downloaded it again, this time allowing the ActiveX to come with it. IE 7 now works perfectly, so I will mark the thread as solved.

Thought you should know. Thanks.
