Solved: Sart up so slow zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hey guys hope youre all well. On a friends computer and the stratup is the slowest ive ever seen, takes about 10 mins from pressing the on button to gettin on the net. . Anyhows any tips or advice on how to sort this problem would be great. Not sure if im posting this in the right place so fell free to move if i am not.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:

Download the latest version of Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update

  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.

    Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.

    Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.

i have zonealarm 2007 up and running. Its not saying that antivirus isnt running, could this be a problem? Is it worth uninstalling and reinstalling?

Ok everything ok on the startup and java side, ive left the start up mode on selective start up is this correct? A little concerned about my antivirus not working on zonealrm, i only paid and instaled it last week, and youre all telling me its not working. We ran a scan with it when it was first installed and it picked up and qurantined 2 trojans, so it was working ok then, dont understand whats happened since. So thanks for the help with the other problem guys but any advice with the antivirus would be great.

you need to have it on selective startup. if you bought and installed a antivirus ,i don't see it. what is the name of the antivirus program ? i don't see any antispyware programs . you should have AD-AWARE SE , SPYBOT , SPYWARE BLASTER and AVG ANTI SPYWARE. download, update and enable all. you can get them all free at this site.

Ok have uninstaled and reinstaled Zonealarm and everything seems to be running fine on the antivirus front and have installed all the other programs you recommended, cleaned of 60 things with spybot alone!. Sorry its taking so long for me to reply to your messages but this isnt my computer, im trying to sort it for a friend. Shall i run another hijack this logfile so you can take another look and see if everything is working ok?
