So I go on vacation and i want to use my remote desktop function to access my home desktop. I guess I could send out an invite to myself, but once that is gone it is gone. If i just have remote desktop running how do I find connect to the computer remotely? do i need to forward a port or what? What do people normally do?
I believe remote desktop runs on port 3389. You need to be running XP Pro and have remote connections enabled. You could also look into using a VNC application.
The main thing to remember is if you don't have a static IP and your home IP changes you will be SOL using remote desktop unless you have a home domain pointing to your IP. Also it shows a way to setup multiple PC's behind a router to all be able to be accessed if you have mroe than one PC at home.
My suggestion is set this all up to be configured and then just disable and enable the port in the router no matter what I would change it from the default port to some unknown port to stop hacking attempts. (it tells you how to edit your registry to change the port your PC is wainting to connect on in the article)
