RAM won't let your system run any faster. RAM controls how many processes you can have open at any given time. The speed of the system is governed by the processor.

you will see faster behavior as you switch between applications, the application
may just pop up without hard drive access in between.

when you switch between applications the computer has to remember where
you are before you leave an application and remember where you've been
before it starts a new one. if you don't have lots of RAM then it has to
do write/read from the hard drive, which takes time.

also within a single application without enough RAM it has to write/read
info to process (like a document or sound file) to the hard drive which
takes time.

so overall it will do things faster because it will need hard drive
access less.

I see you have another thread basically on the same subject above. Two things you need to be aware of, did you match the ram or just stick any ram you had in? It's important because you could have actually decreased your performance if so. Secondly you should close one of these threads or concentrate on one so that people who post back can see what's been recommended already. Also try and post everything about your system. OS, processor, mainboard, etc.

You'll see no performance improvement unless you have very RAM intensive applications.

you fell for the old add more ram to increase system performance crap, well it does if your doing anything that causes you to be using all your ram when you only had a gig, however it does not make you go faster in the same way a faster cpu does. Ram is kind of like your work space, if you have a larger work space it may allow apps to load more info into ram for easy access.
