I installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 on an XP Pro SP3 machine today.

Since completing the installation the Windows process cisvc.exe (see below) has been running continuously for the last 4 hours and is taking up around 94% of the CPU cycles. The machine is therefore almost unusable.

Before I raise a call with Kaspersky could anyone tell me what could be causing this behaviour?

NOTE : Microsoft describe cisvc.exe as follows: -

Microsoft Content Index Service. cisvc.exe is a process that belongs to the Microsoft Windows Operating System. It is used to monitor the memory usage in CIDAEMON.exe and prevent low memory problems. This is an essential system process and should not be removed.

This may not be the permanent solution ,but it is harmless and many people disable this service anyway.

start
run
type in
services.msc
go to index service
stop it
then set properties to disable

If you do not do alot of file searching on you pc you dont need the service.
searching will still work just fine but is slower when it is disabled.

you can then go back in periodically and turn it back on and see if windows has fixed itself.
