Hi,
I have a Dell laptop Inspiron 8600 with Win XP, SP1 and SP2 and an Epson Stylus Photo 2200. My printer is usually wonderful:) , except every once in a GREAT while it will go haywire on me  printing page after page of gobbly-**** ; or misc. lines of characters, numbers and letters. In the past it was something easy to fix  , not so this time. I went through 25 sheets of paper trying to fix the problem  .

Any thoughts? I am at a loss  !

Thank you!

I think it is the printer that has to be un-installed and re-installed. And normal font is what is shown in the posts instead of the gigantic green that is in the first post.

When I tried to remove the old software this is the message I get:

"16 bit Windows Subsystem
C:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\S32EVNT.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed DII initialization. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Close button or Ignore button"

I don't use Symantec that I am aware of...

Please help!

Are you aware that Symantec owns the "Norton" name (anti-virus, security suite, etc.)? :)

Sometimes when old software is corrupted you have to install it again, then uninstall and then you are ready to install it for real.

I went into my device manager and found somethings that look like Symantec files, as I said I don't use Symantec should I get rid of these?

Thanks

Jeanne, I know nothing about that Symantic stuff. Did the error (your post #6) prevent you from removing your printer software? I assumed that it did and was suggesting that you try to install the printer software (hoping that would fix whatever that error was), remove the printer software, and then install it for good.

If this doesn't work for you I can think of nothing else at the moment except to suggest that you do a web search for "S32EVNT.DLL" or "installable Virtual Device Driver failed DII initialization" and hope to find something useful.

I ran into this error message when we turned on one of our computers today and would like to share the solution that worked.

According to the good folks (an oxymoron, perhaps) at Microsoft, there is likely a corruption of a registry value. Article ID 314452: Here's the drill:

To resolve this issue:

1. Start Registry Editor - run: regedit
2. Locate and select the following value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD
3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Multi-string Value.
5. Type VDD in the Value Name box, and then press ENTER.
6. Quit Registry Editor.
If the issue continues to occur, verify that the proper version of the Command.com file is installed in the systemroot/System32 folder on your computer.

Good luck.
