My Pioneer DVD Burner recently stopped responding on my computer. It shows up in the bios, but not in the device manager.

The only modifications to my computer that I did shortly before it stopped working are the addition of a liteon dvd player and the installation of DVD Shrink, both of which have been removed.

Is my burner fried?

Thanks for your time,

Check the jumpers on both the new drive you've installed and the old one. One should be jumpered as Master and the other as Slave and the legends should be printed on the drive - look for MS, SL, CS.

ok. the pioneer burner (old drive ) is set to master and the liteon (new drive) is set to slave. The pioneer is still not turning up on the device manager, or anywhere else except the bios.

The drive is set to AUTO and it does not turn up like that in the Device Manager.

Also, the drive works when installed on another computer (I just tried this)

Thanks,

Bingo, Triple6. The drive is recognized when I use a different IDE cable. Funny though, I had tried that before... but I think that both drives were set to 'master' when I did. Thanks!
