To Open the Recovery Console in XP

OK...put your disk in and Restart the PC...then you my or may not have to press any key for the CD to load.

Select "R" for repair press Enter

Then Select "Recovery Console" Press Enter

When in Recovery Console (a black Screen with white text) type chkdsk /r and press Enter

Follow the prompts and let it run.

Is this a Full XP CD or a Recovery Disk??? You may have to change the boot order but we will see)

If you choose Safemode with Commanf Prompt what happens?

i dont know what disc it is. when the pc went wrong a long time ago someone came and mended it and this was the disc they used. if i use safe mode with command promt i get a screen filled up with
multi (0) disc r disc (0) partition(1)\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\
all the way down but with different numbers on the end.

Does it say on the Disk Recovery or OEM....if it says XPHome and not recovery then it should be the full disk......

In safemode with command prompt after the black screen and white text...then what happens on the screen?

If the disk is being loaded then you should get a blue screen.

If this is not a factory copy of Windows XP Home, what you have is most likely a bootleg copy of XP. You would either need the legal copy that XP was installed on the computer with or if that is not available you would need to purchase a legal copy WinXP Home and install it on the computer.

I'm sorry we need more info to help. Is this a branded pc? If so what is it's name?
If it isn't you need to buy an XP cd and do this:

If it is then you need to get system restore disk from maker...there are no other things we can do for you.
