I am running win xp pro. I can log onto windows with no problems but I want to run the recovery console in dos. But for some reason my administrator password is saying its invalid. Is there any way to change it in normal mode. Or is the admin password different in dos than in normal mode?

Do you actually log onto the computer with the account called Administrator or do you log on with your own account with Administrator privileges? The password should be the same in the recovery console as in windows, but you could be mixing up the account name and the passwords. Either way you can manage all accounts using the Local Users snap-in. It can be found under Administrative Tools, or you can go to run and type "mmc" and then go to file and add new snap-in and select it from there.

If you have an account on the machine that has administrator privileges you can change the Administrator account password without knowing the existing password if you have forgotten it.

Start > Run > type: control userpasswords2. Highlight the Administrator account line, then click Reset Password. Enter the password you want to use.
