Solved: Old Hard Drive into a Newer Computer

Good Afternoon,

I was wondering if it is possible to take a hard drive from an old Dell 4500 Desktop (2002) and put it into my newer Dell Studio XPS 9100 (Mid 2010). The specifications are below.

If it is possible, how do I do it?

Thanks! Kathleen

OK what do you mean exactly when you say "put it in my new computer"? Do you just want to add it as a secondary hard drive to make it easier to transfer your data? Please explain what you intend to do.
BTW most new Dell computers have no IDE connections, so it could not be done natively regardless.
Not without using a controller card or ide to sata adapter. If you just want to copy some data files, you can use an external enclosure. Here is an example of an ide to sata adapter;

Post exactly what you are trying to accomplish.
I thought that might be confusing after I sent it. Yes I went to put in as a secondary drive.
Thank you gentlemen. I think I understand. The old hard drive is NOT going to go inside the new computer and I will have to use the adapter or transfer the files. Thanks for your help!
Here is an external enclosure that you can use with either sata drives OR ide drives. It is also usb3 so while it is more expensive than some enclosures, you can actually use this device in the future [if you want to purchase a sata drive]
