I have some scanner management software that requires Windows 98 in order to function. The only PC we have available is a Dell Precision 360. Unfortunately, Dell doesn't offer driver downloads for Windows 98. The NIC is listed as an Intel Gigabit LOM. Any help finding a driver that will work would be greatly appreciated!!

According to the Dell support site for the Dell Precision WorkStation 360 desktop, it only has drivers for Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

It's pretty difficult nowadays to find a network interface card(NIC) that has drivers and that works with an operating system older than Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

What's listed in the Device Manager in the Network Adapters heading?

The service tag is 73Z5Q31.
Here is the support site that's specific only to your Dell Precision WorkStation 360 desktop.

It appears that it came with Windows XP pre-installed.

It has an Intel Pentium IV processor and an Intel 875P chipset.

The Intel 875P chipset is in the Intel D875PBZ motherboard.

Here is the Intel LAN driver(7.0.26.0) for Windows 98 and Windows ME for that motherboard.

Hopefully, it'll work.

You're welcome. :)

If the Intel driver doesn't work, then you'll need to find a NIC that supports Windows 98/ME. The www.newegg.com site is a good place to look. See if you can find a Linksys LNE100TX NIC. I know for a fact that it works with Windows 98/ME.

Worked like a champ!!! Thank you for all your help! I need a couple more drivers for this same machine. Do you think I should start a new topic?
The drivers I need are for the PCI Multimedia audio device, the PCI system management bus, and the PCI universal serial bus.
Thank you in advance!

That's great! :D

We might as well stick with this thread.

Double-click those 3 entries to open their properties window, then click the "Details" tab, then select "Hardware Id".

There should be a string in each one that has VEN_####&DEV_#### as part of the string.

Advise what the characters are that follow VEN_ and DEV_.

If all goes well, those vendor and device codes will identify those devices so we can hopefully obtain drivers for them.

Go here to download and save the Intel INF Update Utility 6.3.0.1007 file.

Just download and save it for now and don't do anything with it yet.

When I open the properties window, the only tabs I have to choose from are General, Driver, and Resources. I don't see anything that says Hardware ID unfortunately.
Please advise.
Thank you in advance!

I forgot you have Windows 98 and don't have Windows XP, so there may not be a "Details" tab in the properties window.

Go ahead and install the Intel INF update utility, then restart the computer.

In the meantime, I'll do some searching and see if I can find a Windows 98 driver for the Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio device.

Here is a more updated 8.3.1.1009 version of the Intel INF Update Utility for the Intel D875PBZ motherboard. Download and install it instead. If you've already downloaded and installed the 6.3.0.1007 version and restarted, you can install the newer version behind it.

I struck out finding an audio driver. :(

No biggie on the audio driver. Unfortunately, the PC was taken to our remote office to try it out and see if it works for our scanner management software. I will be out there next week to finish loading the Intel INF update utility. Not even sure if the other drivers will be needed to do the job.
Thanks for all your help again, and I will make a final post once I am able to finish it up.
