Does anyone know what the problem might be? I get mail from this web site (it is an environmental site) so apparently I have been there before, but I always get the "Unable to connect...can't establish a connection..." message. Always, whether I use Firefox or IE. I have tried many times over the last few months - the site cannot be that busy every single time I try to visit it, night or day, can it? I have not had this problem with any other site on the internet. I have run all my security software several times and nothing ever shows up. Could I inadvertently have blocked this web site in either Zone Alarm or AVG? If so, how?

Any suggestions very much appreciated. Thank you, Cheryl

That site works fine for me using Opera and Firefox so the problems must be with a setting on your computer.

One possibility is that the URL for www.care2.com has somehow got added to your Hosts file, assuming you have one. If you use Spybot you definitely will have a Hosts file and you can check by doing a 'Find Files' search for 'hosts'. Mine is 68KB and I used Wordpad to open it.

If you find a Hosts file I'm afraid you will have to scroll down it and look for the care.com URL and, if you find it, delete it, reboot and try to access the site again. I know this has worked at least once for someone that had problems accessing only one site, so it might just help you as well.

If it doesn't help it will have eliminated one possibility and 'bumped' your post back to the top!

Okay - you are a genius. I looked in my hosts file and sure enough, there it was. I removed it, opened a new version of Firefox and went right to the site.

Thank you so much for your time and expertise!

If only I were a genius, I might have a lot more money than I actually have!

You can mark this 'Solved' by clicking on the red triangle at the top right of your post and following the instructions there.
