Start by doing this:

Have these instructions printed or in a convenient Notepad (or Wordpad) file so you can view them in Safe Mode. Have "show hidden (or all) files" checked in Folder Options > View in case you have to search for any hidden files to delete. Also ensure you do NOT have "hide file extensions..." enabled in Folder Options > View

Download and unzip to a convenient location the CoolWebShredder, CWShredder.exe available here: http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html

Then:

1 >> Restart in Safe Mode: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406

2 >> In Safe Mode run the CoolWebShredder and have it "fix" detected problems. Then run HijackThis and check and "fix" the following entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=31403
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://start.earthlink.net

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {467FAEB2-5F5B-4c81-BAE0-2A4752CA7F4E} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\KY3O4L~1.DLL

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Control handler] C:\WINDOWS\system32\kgpyoy6tfz43hthd.exe >> delete the file

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PsMcB0] C:\WINDOWS\tanec.exe >> this may or may not be legit; if you can't vouch for it, delete it

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sais] c:\program files\180solutions\sais.exe >> delete the "180solutions" folder while still in Safe Mode

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IST Service] C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe >> delete the "ISTsvc" folder

O4 - Global Startup: winlogin.exe >> you may need to manually delete this file from:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

O16 - DPF: {DBA230D1-8467-4e69-987E-5FAE815A3B45} -

O23 - Service: ZESOFT - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\zeta.exe >> delete the file

Additional cleanup instructions: Go to the Control Panel > Internet Options applet. Clear the Temporary Internet Cache, History and Offline Content. Go to the Programs tab and select "reset web settings", including your home page if it has been altered. You can reset that later to what you desire.

Go to Start > Run, enter %temp% and then click Edit > Select All. Right click on the selected files and folders and delete them

>> Reboot

Ok I followed the intructions as best as I could but I had some trouble deleting the file:

04 - Global Startup: winlogin.exe

I couldn't delete it in the highjackthis program, and I couldn't find it in the startup folder. The highjackthis program told me to end the tast in task manager but i couldn't find the program in the task manager's process page. the closest one was called winlogon.exe and I didnt want to delete because I wasn't sure what it was. Also I still have the problem of the homepage being here4search. So here is my latest log, in just glancing at the log I noticed a few things I deleted came back (such as O20 - AppInit_DLLs: 1pu613i989iepe.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll). Please help me. Thanks for all your help.

Ok lets try a slightly different approach. We used to have available a removal tool for these appinit.dlls but the one I normally use isn't available. Other things can be tried.

>> download, install, update and run a full AVG scan. You can use the free version. This has reported success with this particular infection and if the files are resistant or hidden we may have better luck on future efforts. Have it delete or quarantine anything it finds infectred

http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

Then download, unzip and have available the following file:

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

Have the following instructions in a notepad file so you can view them in notepad.

>> Restart in Safe Mode again.

>> In Safe Mode, go to Start > Run, enter regedit and navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

In the Right Hand pane you will see a Value Name: AppInit_DLLs

Double click that and completly blank out the "value data" in the edit string and click "OK"

>> Next run the coolwebshredder again and have it fix anything it detects
>> Run HijackThis again and check and fix the following entries if present

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=31403
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=31403
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=31403

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {467FAEB2-5F5B-4c81-BAE0-2A4752CA7F4E} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\W8C6S4~1.DLL

>> run "killbox.exe" and copy/paste the following line into the "file to be deleted" path:

c:\windows\system32\1pu613i989iepe.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll. dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

> check "end explorer shell" and "delete on reboot". Press the red button with the X . Do NOT confirm the prompt to reboot yet.

Copy/paste into the "file to be deleted" field:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlogin.exe

and once again check "end explorer shell" and "delete on reboot". This time confirm the prompt to reboot when you press the button. Have all other things closed when you do.

Reboot and post a new Scanlog.

Ok, I followed your instructions, the only problem I had was that in safe mode CWShredder cuold not finish its scan and fix. It had to shut down and gave me a "send error report" prompt. But I did everything else, and for the first time my IE page opened up to an about blank page. I was pretty happy. So here is my latest highjackthis log. let me know if I need to fix anything. And thank you thank you thank you for helping me.

Use HijackThis to check and fix these:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
F3 - REG:win.ini: load=
F3 - REG:win.ini: run=

You should be able to set your homepage as you wish. Default search settings can be restored using the Internet Options > Programs > reset web settings option.

Other than that everything looks copacetic.

Might be a good time to purge and reset the System Restore cache. Basically you turn it off, reboot and turn it back on again. More detailed instructions here if you need them:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...5065b3834b10031488256b0900255ea7?OpenDocument

You're most welcome for the help. If there don't appear to be any further problems, feel free to mark the thread "solved" using the Thread Tools tab.

By the way it's probably not a good idea to have Symantec an AVG antivirus applications starting and running at the same time. If your Symantec is up to date, I guess I would keep that and reserve AVG as a backup.
