I have a few insignificant questions I'd like to ask, and I don't want to make multiple threads and clog the forum... I have Windows XP Home, so you know.

1. Anything that has Japanese/Chinese/Korean characters in it will come up as random letters and boxes on my comp. I know I need to download some sort of language pack, but where and how?

2. I saw in another thread that it's bad to have multiple virus-scanning programs at once, and I was wondering if this is okay... I have McAfee (came with comp), Ad-Aware, HijackThis, and Windows Registry Repair. They obviously all aren't for the same thing, but I want to be sure...

3. I like to have all my pictures folders set to thumbnails view, but every so often when I view them they revert back to filmstrip. I change it back, and it does it again! How do I get this to stop?

*whoo* Thanks in advance! ^^

You should be able to download language packs at the Windows Update site

It is not a good idea to have multiple AntiVirus programs running at the same time . . however Ad-Aware HijackThis is not Antivirus . . they help with spyware. Not sure what Windows Registry Repair is but it sounds risky . .

Can't help with this . . sorry

"You should be able to download language packs at the Windows Update site"

Yeah, I did, and it did absolutely nothing. It just sits there in my program list. =/ Maybe I dled the wrong thing?

"Not sure what Windows Registry Repair is but it sounds risky . ."

It basically corrects outdated files in the registry. Their site is located here: http://www.3bsoftware.com/downloads/registryrepair.html

Thanks for your help.

#2 Increase Folder View Size Limit to 8000

To use the Regedits: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

I did that, and when I went back, all 4 folders had gone back to filmstrip. I changed them back, I hope that that REG file will help.

Now, anyone willing to give me the link of a program I can DL so that my computer will properly display Japanese fonts? The internet is not the problem, I can view them in there, but nowhere else on my comp...

shhhhhhhh-- characters have funky symobols 'cause you are d/l from asian servers- just rename to whatever English names you want BUT dont ask for help with p2p stuff 'cause it's a no-no here (i didnt make the rules!)

If you get folders that wont remember the views you have set open
regedit and delete these keys:

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]

reboot and set you folders to the way you want them-

if youre not sure about it just create a system restore point before you do it

I'm not ASKING for help with P2P software, would you rather I showed you a screenshot of the FILES THEMSELVES in My Documents with the screwed up filenames?! This has nothing to do with P2P software, it has to do with my computer not recognising foreign encoding, and all I want is some help here. Everything I've found online so far has told me to download files that don't even work with XP, or to partition my harddrive!

And someone has already helped me with the views problem.

anyways.... what happens when you download files and Right Click on them "Rename" ?

as a footnote - your screenshot shows "WINMX" - i do not care either way myself, i'm just saying that when people ask for help with anything that SUGGESTS a connection to p2p (as a screenshot of a p2p service does) it tends to uh- not go over well in these forums - just trying to help ya out... ;)

I could care less what the people here think about P2P services. If they have so much of a problem with them that they won't help me, I'll just find another tech forum -- they're all the same, anyway.

I'm able to rename the files, but since I can't -see- the real Japanese text, I have no idea what romaji to rename it to. I found a program that worked to fix most of the characters, so this is solved now as far as I'm concerned.
