Hi members. I am a new member and this is my first question. I have just recently downloaded the new version of google - internet explorer 8, and since then I am getting about 30 junk emails every day from companies offering me life insurance, loans, etc. I am fed up with this. I have tried black-listing the various companies, but it does not stop their emails from getting through. When I downloaded internet explorer 8 I may have ticked a box allowing this to happen but I didn't know I was going to be hounded with so much every day. How do I stop this from happening? I hope you can help me with this matter, or at least tell me who can. Thanks for your time and best wishes.:)

Welcome to TSG

There is no such version as "google - internet explorer 8." If anything,
Google and Microsoft are competitors.

Internet Explorer has nothing to do with what appears in emails. It
is only used for viewing emails IF you have webmail.

Based on you saying Google, I would assume you have gmail. You
can check your profile and see if you clicked anything relating to
receiving sponser emails. Other than that all you can do is set your
spam filter to on at the gmail website. And if any emails come in
that are spam, mark them as such. Gmail filtering is pretty good and
eventually should learn what you consider to be spam, based on you
telling it.

I don't have google mail. I am with an american company called LYCOS MAIL, who I have been with for years and am very happy with them. I have never had a problem with lots of junk emails until I downloaded internet explorer the other day. I don't know if the two are linked - I'm not an expert, which is why I am seeking advice. I just want rid of all the junk. I will try your advice. Thank you for your time.

It might have helped if you described who your email provider is
and whether you use webmail or an email client.

You don't have to be an expert - you will gain some knowledge
by posting and reading some threads here.

If your email comes from your ISP, check with them to see what
they offer for spam control.
