Helping out a fiend by removing spyware (using spybot1.3) and viruses using AVG free. Operating system was XP Pro service pack 1. The internet is accessed via Tiscali broadband (ADSL) and was working until Spybot ran after a re-boot to remove memory resident spyware and AVG free was installed. Durng AVG first scan I tried to access the internet to get the AVG update files and the browser said page could not be accessed. The tiscali link connected ok and the network connection shows sending and receiving of packets. Tried removing Explorer and re-adding via add remove programs setting, but still got the same problem. Upgraded to XP service pack 2 but still no good. any ideas?

WINSOCK2 FIX
=============
If you can't access the Internet with programs like IE, Outlook Express, or other web browsers, you may have corrupted Winsock entries.

To Remove the existing winsock2 registry entries (regardless of the OS) run:
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/reg/xp_del_winsock.reg

To add WindowsXP clean entries back in again, run:
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/reg/xp_winsock.reg

TCP/IP RESET
=============
If you need to reset the TCP/IP protocol stack with XP you need to run a small script:

netsh int ip reset [ log_file_name ]

the log_file_name needs to be specified.
e.g. - netsh int ip reset ip_reset.txt
