I'm trying to fix my parents computer. They attempted to install a new printer and accompanying photo manager. After installing printer, it does not work. They decided to unistall photomanger and it starts uninstall them says fatal error. I got a win 16 subsystem error when trying to reinst printer software. I downloaded the printer driver. When istalling it prepares the install wizard and copies the needed files, then it stops installation and closes, no error message. Any suggestions? Please help.

When you post a problem, it would help quite a bit if you listed the exact hardware. There are a lot of different printers so list exact specs on both the printer AND the system you are attempting to install it on.

The printer is a lexmark x1270 all-in-one printer, and they also tried to install photo explosion special edition version 2.5. Due to the size of the photo explosion program they tried to uninstall it but it wouldn't uninstall. I don't think the problem is with the printer software because I tried the disk and a driver from the lexmark site and the installation won't complete with either. The set-up ends and a message saying unable to run 16 bit program occurred, recommend closing win 16 subsystem comes up. The computer is a hp pavilion 511w using windows xp.

Since it is xp, have you tried a system restore to a point before the printer was installed?
