Hi,

I've seen some other posts on the forum for this - I have the IETLBASS.DLL Trojan virus on my computer and have tried the following to date:

disabled system restore
opened in safe mode and then i have run all of the following:
Spybot
Adaware
CW Shredder
Norton AV
TrendSysclean (although this ran showing error -94)?

Every time i reboot Norton is still showing the virus present - I'm beginning to lose hope! I have just run Hijack this and the log is posted below.

If anyone can help I'd be very grateful - please note i'm a relative novice at this (but learning fast)

thanks!

Hi,

Yes I am using the SE version of Adaware.

I fixed as per your instructions and when i rebooted the message was there again. I have run Adaware, Spybot and Norton (which detected the virus as usual)

Any ideas on what to do next?

Thanks for your help

this is the new log from HijackThis:

I followed your instructions and then also ran Norton AV.

interestingly when i ran norton in safe mode this time it detected the trojan as follows:

c:\Progfiles\backups\backup-20050119-221444-955.dll.

I quaratined and deleted but still got the original IETLBASS.DLL pop up when i rebooted in normal mode!

here is the HijackThis file.....

Rescan with Hijack This and have it fix these entries:

O2 - BHO: DOMP Class - {4C1B116F-2860-46db-8E6C-B4BFC4DFD683} - C:\WINDOWS\ietlbass.dll

O4 - Global Startup: RealAudio.exe

O16 - DPF: {037B3D58-D14A-4C41-BDFD-BD779B0B97BA} -

O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://a1540.g.akamai.net/7/1540/52...meInstaller.exe

Then boot to safe mode (see how below), locate and delete these files and/or folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\RealAudio.exe - file

How to restart to safe mode:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...2001052409420406?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam

Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start - Search and under "More advanced search options". Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools - Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types". Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Reboot and post another log please.

It would also be a good idea to run TDS-3 which is a very effective trojan scanner:

Download TDS-3 from http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=download

Update it following the instructions here:
http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=update

Under the "Manual Update" right click on the radius.td3 file and choose "Save target as". Then in the "Save in" box browse to the C:\Program Files\TDS3 folder (provided that is the location of your TDS-3 directory) and save it there. A prompt will appear telling you that there is already a radius.td3 file there "do you want to overwrite it" click Yes.

Run the "full System scan", preferably in safe mode.

Note: Temporarily disable your Antivirus program.

Launch TDS-3 and click on "System Testing" then "Full System Scan" and the scan will begin.

TDS-3 does not automatically remove infected files that it finds. It will display what it has found in the lower portion of the main window and it will either say "Positive Identification etc...." or "Suspicious File". Anything with a positive identification you should right click and delete. Don't do anything with the suspicious ones yet. Right click on any suspicious entry found and choose "Save as Text" then go to the TDS-3 folder (usually C:\Program Files\TDS) and look for a scandump.txt file. Open the scandump.txt file and copy and paste it's contents here. Once we see the scandump file we can determine what to do with the suspicious ones. The suspicious files are often harmless.

Hi -

Thanks for your support and help - i ran the TDS first and it picked up 3 trojans, including one linked to the Real Audio that you mentioned. I then followed the Hijack this instructions adn deleted all files except the 04 - Global start up ...real audio (not there - but maybe because of the scan?).

I also couldn't find any files under the folder location you specified - so far i've logged back on and no Virus message - I think you may have got it.

here is my hijack this log - would welcome any further actiosn required and i'll let you know if anything reappears.

regards and thanks!

Steve

You're welcome. That's a clean log.

Now you should turn system restore off to flush out all previous restore points and then turn it back on and create a new restore point:

I also recommend downloading SPYWAREBLASTER & SPYWAREGUARD, for added protection.

Read here to see how to tighten your security:

Delete your temporary files:

In safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the recycle bin.
