Hi everyone. Someone download something, probably Lycos, and I had over 400 things on my adaware log. Removed it all, somethings remained, ran spybot also. I need someone to make sure that there is nothing left.
I appreciate it:

after fixing peper unzip hjt to a permanent folder not a temp one so it will make & keep backups
then
Run hijackthis, tick these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PROMon.exe] PROMon.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dsi] C:\WINNT\system32\dp-k13w13.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WhenUSearch] C:\PROGRA~1\WHENUS~1\Search.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [38Z3MSR3DDD##A] C:\WINNT\system32\Qxcn74j.exe
O4 - Startup: Virtual Bouncer.lnk = C:\Program Files\VBouncer\VirtualBouncer.exe

Reboot into safe mode by following instructions here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406
then as some of the files or folders you need to delete may be hidden do this:
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Delete these files
C:\WINNT\system32\dp-k13w13.exe

and Delete these folders
C:\PROGRAm files\WHEN U Search
C:\Program Files\VBouncer

then
Reboot normally

Don't want to butt in on Derek's turf, but I see he's offline.
These are still on your computer so you are going to have to do it again following Derek's instructions above=
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dsi] C:\WINNT\system32\dp-k13w13.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WhenUSearch] C:\PROGRA~1\WHENUS~1\Search.exe
O4 - Startup: Virtual Bouncer.lnk = C:\Program Files\VBouncer\VirtualBouncer.exe

HJT is still in a Temp folder too.

SP4 needed for W2K too.

OK, just want to point out that I have slowly begun to lose my mind and Because I have three different machines with problems, I have to consciously think about which computer I am on when I am running HJT logs and fixing them. I saved HJT onto this machine and here is the new log.:D

Hi Ray, I read the link. I understand it, I guess the major thing is to try to figure out everything it is considering affiliated programs. I'll go play with the add/remove and the program files and see what I can see.

OK Derek,
I let ADdy do its thing and it didn't find anything. I also removed the Lycos program files, and the Usearch files, and the Incredifind program files. Anything else or is this machine now fixed?
Thanks to everyone who helped.:)

p.s. Derek, how is everything in the land of Eng?

Log looks clean to me. Assuming Derek confirms it is clean, here are some steps you can take to keep it from getting infected again. There are no guarantees, but these can certainly help.

I strongly recommend you have a firewall. There are a couple of good free ones available for downloading. ZoneAlarm Here, and Sygate Here.

I believe you already have Spybot installed. It has an Immunize feature which will stop a lot of nasties from being installed on your computer. To activate it, open Spybot and click the Immunize icon in the left pane. Now click the Immunize button in the right pane.

Next, download SpyWareBlaster Here. Install it and open the program. Click the Check for Updates button and download the latest updates. Now click Select All then the Protect Against Checked Items. This program will now be running in the background and adding to the protection provided by Spybot's Immunize feature for ActiveX nasties.

Next, download IE-SPYAD Here. Follow the installation instructions on the site. This little item will install a TON of URL's in IE's Restricted sites list, thereby preventing your computer from accessing known bad sites from which nasties can be installed.

Also, be very sure you have installed all the latest Critical Updates from the Windows Update site. Partiticularly SP4.

You may also want to take a look at This thread.

Hope your Friday is improved a bit. :D
