I purchased TI10 during Oct 2006. For > 2 months, I have been trying to get it to work. I want to clone a Hard Disk Drive [ HDD ], by using the bootable feature, so I can avoid installing the product. I want to do this to avoid damaging the computer's file system.

I tried to clone from 1 SATA HDD, Western Digital 80 GB to a 2nd SATA HDD, Western Digital 80 GB. Acronis tech support has been uncooperative. They asked me to prepare a report. I did. I sent it to them, twice. I am still trying to resolve that issue.

Norton Ghost 10 does not have the feature [ cloning, using bootable CD ].

I was able to successfully use Norton Ghost 2003. NG 2003 doesn't support USB drives.

Can you recommend a different product, 1 that supports SATA HDD cloning as well as cloning to USB drives?

Sincerely,
RF123

I use Acronis to clone SATA to USB drives frequently. When you are using the bootable CD are you using the safe version or full version? You need the full version to load the SATA and USB drivers.

What is your specific issue with Acronis TI? I use it here all the time with USB drives as well as over the network.

Yes, I just gave up on Acronis myself. If you go to their support site, people there are talking about "BING", which is BootIt NG or BootIt Next Generation, part of the raving is about the support, ease of use and an excellent website which even has video tutorials. DO NOT install before reading the manual. I just got it this evening, so I haven't read the manual, nor used it yet, but thats what fed up Acronis users are going to. They also provide a download for a fully functioning, 30 day trial. To be honest, after going to Acronis' site, I was glad I couldn't get it to work. [email protected]
or www.TeraByteUnlimited.com
I would be interested on your view of this as I am new to this sort of stuff

Thanks for the reply.

I don't know. I didn't get that far. See below.

JW:
Thanks for the reply.

The problem:
The problem occurs after downloading the image & burning it to a CD.

The CD boots. The CD boot menu appears [ normal, safe, Windows ].

"An Acronis" appears.

Then, the screen goes blank.

XPSP2:
Thanks for the reply.
Thanks for the tips about BING.

I do NOT intend to install TI, Ghost or BING. I want to clone the HDD before installing a program. I want to reduce the possibility of file corruption. I want to preserve the state of the file system before working on the computer.

Sincerely,
RF123

Let me see if I have this right.

You downloaded TI.

You installed it on your system.

You created a recovery boot CD.

You booted that CD.

Is that correct? If not, that's the porcess for generating a bootable recovery CD.

OK, never knew that there was an image for the boot disk that you could download directly. I guess I never needed one... :)

Seems to be better here than at what I thought was their official support site. Wilders Security Forum. [email protected] did respond to my emails daily, 24 hr turnover, which is a lot better than some companies I have tried to deal with. However, in my case, I just need partitions, OS selector isn't necessary. I have come to the conclusion it will be quicker to reformat my whole harddrive and start from scratch. I am not as patient as rainforest123, three days (24hrs), is long enough for me. I'd be done already had I just started from scratch. It is almost like someone here either knows or is related to acronis.
Which I guess is irrelevant so long as it gets results;)
Good luck rainforest123
I don't wish to offend anyone, but, Merry Christmas to all

No. I downloaded the image, which I purchased from Acronis.

I used Nero 6 to create a bootable CD.

I booted the computer with the CD.

The above were the instructions from Acronis.

Sincerely,
RF123
That doesn't seem right. If you downloaded an ISO Image thats suppose to burn directly to CD, which I didn't even know you could as the one's I've downloaded from Acronis are always executable installation files, then you do not create a CD using the Bootable CD option but rather you use Burn CD from Image option.

Do you have a link to the instructions?

I use CasperXP .. But it costs way more than it's worth.
http://www.fssdev.com/products/casperxp/
I have cloned all combinations of drives with it .... ATA, SATA, internally ... or ATA usb externally.
It can have a little trouble with cloning fat recovery partitions.
The main reason I still use the "little ghost" .. It's extremely simple and fast.

Have you tried to make an Acronis recovery image .. And recover the new drive that way ?

Did you try calling Acronis back at the number posted? Did you figure this one out?

No, I didn't call them.

Early Nov, they had asked for a log, which I had to create manually. I sent it to them 6 times. They recently replied that their email database had been down. They offered to compensate me with a free product.

***************
Well, please let us compensate you with a free product. If this seems fair enough to you, please visit http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/ and choose any program you like.

***************

I don't mind paying for a product as long as the product works.

Noyb, no, I haven't tried to create an image. That would take 20 DVDs.

T6:
- Download the below ISO image and burn it on CD:

http://download.acronis.com/sl/kbja...788965/TrueImageHome10.0_Standard_English.iso

- Boot your computer via created CD and let me know what are the last 10-15 lines of the output on the screen.
You can select full, safe version or both to be included in Acronis True Image Bootable CD. The safe version does not have USB, PC card or SCSI drivers and is useful in case the full version does not load.

As for the Bootable CD creation please see Chapter 9. "Creating bootable media" of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home User's Guide. Please be aware that in trial version of Acronis Bootable Rescue CD only Recovery feature is available.
On 11 Oct, Acronis sent the following to me.

Thank you for using Acronis True Image http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

1. Please note that Acronis software support all interfaces types of hard disk drives.

2. You can clone USB drive when you work in full mode with Acronis bootable CD.

Ok, the link is temporary based on your purchase. I didn't know they offerred ISO's, its handy.

Out of curiosity, have you tried the CD in more then one computer? Just to see if the CD itself works?
