I have been having trouble with the Netsky.C worm. Keeps reappearing. I have just run AVG and the Netsky tool and was told that it was healed. I then ran Hyjack this as instructed in previous posts I read. Would someone please take a look at this and advise. Why does this bug keep appearing? Thanks for your help!

OOps!!!! Also... I just ran AdAware and came up with 104 items. Is it always safe to delete everything it finds? Most of the registry items were "Wild Tangent", alot of "Wild Tangent" files, and some cookies. Here's the Hijack list:

I have no Idea what this is:

F1 - win.ini: run=after.exe

I'm sure it doesn't need to be in your win.ini file so go ahead and fix that one with HJT and restart your computer.

Also do a file search for after.exe and go Go here

Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the Submit file section.

Click on Browse

Navigate to the after.exe file and upload it. Let us know the results.

It may be hidden so Click on My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Apply then OK. Click Yes to confirm.

Also did you place these retrictions on IE?:

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

If you're sure you didn't lock the IE control panel or your home page with something like SpywareBlaster or a similar program you can fix those two O6 entries too.

Also please put a copy of the after.exe file in a zipped folder and send it to me here. Please include a link to this thread so I'll remember where it came from.

It might be a good idea to rename that file to after.bak until we see what it's up to. If anything misses the file you can always rename it back with the .exe extension.

Just wanted to point out that you need to get the latest version of Hijack This which is 1.97.7. I would suggest you post a new log when you're done.

To update open Hijack This and click on the Config button in the lower right corner then click on the Misc tools button then click on Check for update online and dowload the update and post the log from the new version.

I didn't realise until just now that you had two threads going related to the same problem.

Please stick with one thread until your situation is resolved.

I've merged your 2 threads. Please continue in this thread,

Sorry about the 2 threads. Here's the latest log from the updated Hijack This. I'm still not sure about the 06 items. Wonder if it's safe to whip these out. I don't recall doing anything with IE.

I don't think they are a problem. I suspect that you placed them there and just don't remember it. However you cannot access Internet Options or change your home page with them there. If you don't remember putting them there then obviously you don't know how to temporarily disable them to access those features in IE. It's not going to hurt anything to fix them. I'll leave that up to you.

The log is clean. I don't see any sign of Netsky.
