Somehow my printer got deleted, Vista is not on the disc. It was installed 3 years ago(by someone else)
and worked fine. The software and driver(upgraded 11/2010) are still there, but "No device detected"
when I try to print something. 98SE, Me, 2000, & XP are on the install disc, not Vista.

Here is the support and software site for the HP Photosmart C3180 All-In-One printer.

You should add and save this site in your browser favorites/bookmarks list so it's readily available when you need to refer to it.

------------------------------------------------------------------

The install disk you have is obviously an old one, if it only has driver software for Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, and XP.

Here is the driver software download link for Windows Vista.

Just download and save it. Don't do anything with it yet.

Go into Control Panel - Programs And Features. Write down all the HP-related entries.

Submit the list of names here in a vertical column.

Start simple.

Unplug the printer from the USB port. Reboot the PC. Once the PC is up and runing again, plug the printer back in.

If that doesn't work, you can get the C3180 drivers for Vista at http://support.hp.com . In the search box, at the upper right hand corner, type 'Photosmart c3180' in the product box, and type 'drivers' in the question or keywords box

Once you find the correct driver, and download it, make sure the printer is unplugged from the PC until the installation software tells you to plug it in.

It looks like you and I were replying at the same time.

I'm waiting to see the list of HP-related entries so I can confirm if 8.0.1 for Vista is installed or if 7.0.1 for 98SE/ME/2000/XP is installed.

In the future, select to do a custom or advanced install instead of a default or complete install. That allows you to select only the components that you actually need and doesn't install all the extra unneeded stuff. The ones in bold type are the only ones that you actually need for printing and scanning and maintenance.
