Hello everyone
Will ask this question even knowing I will be laughed out of the forum.
Please understand that I really do not know how to:
1. Save/backup a file, example:
my documents, or a program file.
a. to any kind of media
2. How to view
a. from cd/dvd or hard disk.
3. What you should see when viewing any of the media backups.
4. How to reinstall/mount/reinstall any type of backup
a. To original directory tree.
b. Where one can open/use/run a file or program that was backedup.
Will anyone help me (and not laugh too hard), or point me to a:
a. step-by-step tutorial/guide
b. link to a tutorial/guide.
I want to "know" how to do this without having to rely on a software program to do it.

The easiest way to backup data is with a ced burner . . If you have a burner, you can right click on the files in My Documents and select Send To . . CD/RW drive. You can select all th files by clicking on Edit . . Select all . .

You will then be told you have files ready to be written to the cd . . click that ballon and select "Write these files to CD" ( with a blank cd in the drive )

You can do the same with removable media ( flash or external drive)

This is a pretty good explanation of the whole process: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/moredone/backupfiles.mspx

This is a pretty good tutorial on using the XP Backup Utility . . http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309340

Once you have read this, come back with any questions
