I acquired a Gateway SOLO 5300 Notebook pc with a combo CD-RW/DVD player. When I try to play DVD's, I get lagging all the way through. I looked in the Device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and under Device 0 it says it is running under Ultra DMA Mode 2. Under Device 1 it says not applicable. Both are set to Auto Detect. I would just buy a new drive, but I am afraid the drive may not be the problem. Is there a way I can test the drive?
Any other suggestions?

I would appreciate the help.

Ultra DMA Mode 2 is correct for the DVD drive, I don't think that's the issue. I can't imagine the drive causing this issue and not spitting out an error sooner or later.

Thanks for the quick response. This computer only has a 10 GB hard drive with 3.8 GB free space. It has an Intel Pentium III processor running at 601 MHz and has 256 MB of ram.
