Solved: Downloading floppies to "my pictures" on a XP sytem

664 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  harve85
I am going to discard a computer that contains Windows 98. I want to download pictures from the Windows 98 by floppy disk to a computer with Windows XP to "my pictures". I have no trouble downloading the pictures to the floppies. The XP system does have a floppy drive. Step by step how do I load the pictures into the XP system?

As a new member this is my first time to contact you. Sure hope I have followed all the rules.

Thank you in advance for any help I may receive.

Hi, and welcome to the forums! :D

Pop in the floppy disk.
Open Windows Explorer (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer).

Click the [+] next to My Documents in the left pane of Windows Explorer to expand the My Documents folder (disregard this if My Documents is already expanded).

You should be able to see the My Pictures folder listed underneat My Documents in the pane now; remember where it is.

Double-click My Computer in the left pane to expand My Computer.
Single-click "3 1/2 Floppy (A: )" to read the disk in the floppy drive; your files should appear in the right-hand pane now.

Single-click one of the files in the right-hand pane to select it. Now go up to the EDIT menu and select "SELECT ALL." This should highlight all of the files. Now go to the EDIT menu again and select "COPY."

Now, in the left hand pane, go back to the My Pictures folder you saw earlier (underneath My Documents). Single-click the My Pictures folder to select it.

Click once in the right hand pane then go to the EDIT menu again and select PASTE.

That should do it, let me know how it goes.

Put the floppy in the XP computer - go to windows explorer - then click on 3 1/2 floppy. It will open and show you what's on the disk. Drag and drop or copy and paste to the folder of your choice.

Hello,

That worked very well and taught me alot about a computer. For sure I have a lot to learn in dealing with the XP system.

Thank you very much. Harve85
