I've been using IE6 and like it. I like the fact it blocks cookies, etc. However, since I've been using it I've been having a problem with my downloads. Normally, IE will ask you where you wish the download to go. I always place downloads in My Documents. Now, it doesn't ask me, but starts the download automatically to a "Temporary Folder". Now, I'm an experienced user, but I cannot FIND this "Temporary Folder". I type the exact name of the file download in search, but cannot find it, which tells me it wasn't downloaded in the first place. I looked everywhere, even in my Temp Folder. I am lead to believe the files are not downloading. I checked all my settings and cannot find anywhere where you can change where downloads go. As a result, now I can't download anything! Grrrrr! Anyone?

Just a thought in passing.

Have you looked in File Manager or Temp1 folder?

beach51 - going back to IE 5.5 is an option, and I may consider doing that, thanks. Tony Klein - I have Windows ME, which may be different from '98, since under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, I did not see Software. So, could not navigate to where you suggested, but thanks. Rollin' Rog - Thanks for the link to Microsoft that describes this problem. However, I found only Winzip (zip) as one of the file types, but could not find .exe as an option, and many of my downloads are in the .exe file types. So, tried your suggestion of right-clicking and save target as...........it works! It would be nice if I didn't have to do this, but for now, it is a solution. Thanks to all, and if anyone knows of a permanent solution, I sure would welcome it!

rhinestones, since your problem is somewhat similar to that described in this thread, the solution I suggested might be what is needed. I note that evidently the download is not being completed even to a temp folder since you can't find it.

Also, I don't have WinME, so I can't verify this, but if you go to Folder Options> File Types and select "Application", is there an "advanced" tab you can click on? (No such option in Win98)

Rollin' Rog: FYI - Tried Tony's suggestion again, and I did navigate to Internet Explorer. It DOES point to C:\My Documents, which is where I want it, but it doesn't do it......I followed your instructions on the Folder Options/File Types..........but no Application option was found, only Advanced. When I clicked on Advanced, my only options were to uncheck "confirm open after download", or check "Always show extension." I also checked on Bryan's advice, but I do not have Quicktime installed, nor have I ever installed it, so that is not the problem. Any other ideas? 8^)

It's really a longshot, but the problem isn't always associated with Quicktime, other installations can affect downloads as well. No harm has come to anyone that I know of from deleting that extension key. Problems with it seem to manifest in different forms.

Other than that I don't know what else might be causing the problem. You don't have any download managers installed do you?

Rollin' Rog.............Well, I did what you said, deleted the Extension Key in Regedit. It WORKED! So far, downloads are going where they should be, no ill-effects on my computer. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
