Hi!

I have a thorn with my Windows XP. For a long time I've had the resolution set to 1024x768.
Recently I've set it to 1280x1024 and repositioned the icons - it looks better, more space,...

When I start my PC the next day, it resets the resolution to 1024x768 and whats even more frustrating is that all the icons are placed in their old position - every time, again and again.

I've tried to solve the problem with the "Clean Boot" from MS's help - it didn't work.

If anyone has any clue, please help.

Thanx!

Thanx for the tip, but it didn't work.

Well, it worked for that day - I've entered the .reg to the registry and powered down my PC.
When I started it - cool - it worked - nice! :)

But... :(
Today I came from work, started my PC and...it was set to the old resolution and all the icons were in their old position.

Any other idea? Anyone?

Still the same problem. Some days it starts all OK, some days NOT. In the mid time I installed 2 new programs, put theirs icons on the desktop, hoped that they triggered some save procedure - nothing. When the setting resets they move to the first empty space in the original positioning. :(

Is there maybe an issue with the nVidia drivers?

Do you have a Printer/Scanner that you leave on ... at shutdown ???
I have a HP all-in-one that causes this ... in two HP computers.

I have an UMAX scanner and an HP printer, both shut down at startup and shutdown. So this is not an issue here. :)

As I know, the Theme does not affect the screen resolution. I've tried it, no effect.

I've tried to change from Windows Standard to Windows XP Appearance. It didn't work.

Last try: I've uninstalled all video drivers and reinstalled them anew. For now it's working - I'll post the results after I'm sure it worked. I hope it does...

I fear to post I figured it out just to start my PC and find it all reset...

So, the problem (I think) was the double resolution settings - one WinXP's, the other nVidia's (Control Panel). The nVidia (set to 1024x768) forced it to reset. Still, that doesn't explain why some days it reset and some did not. And the icons falling back to their preset position...

Anyway, now it's all solved.
