Here was the problem before:

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/530334-solved-services-maxing-out-my.html

Fastforward. Im looking at my Process Explorer with a big question. IF every process running is using between 20-60% how in the world is my CPU running at 100%?? Maybe someone else can do that math cuz it's not making sense. Again, only 3 IE windows open. looking now i am getting harware interrupts 1.47 deferred procedure calls 1.49. My explorer.exe 1.49 - 10.67.

help her please. (She puts the lotion on her skin)

I was just visiting other posts:

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/534489-solved-my-computer-issues.html

Now I did have a cable modem change today. I was suppose to be getting 6megs down, i was getting like 1.1. Changed the modem, best freakin roadrunner could do for me was 3.79Mbps. Anywho, the new cable modem is a touchstone. Their speedtest says 3.79Mbps, but my IE pages are still loading like dial up. Still I cannot do the math posted above. If I had other totals that would equal 100 say system idle I would have no complaints, but I watch the processes for a good lil while, and they didn't add up.

Not sure if I was clearly communicating my problem. The total indicated on the process explorer goes between 10 - 60%, yet my cpu is running at 100% This is why I say it doesn't add up. If my cpu is at 100% then the totals of everything running (CPU wise) should equal 100%. Hope someone can help me, or at least direct me somewhere else.

Hi OneLuv,

Don't mind the post as its already been removed by the poster.

Please post a screenshot of the Processes from Task Manager like you did with your previous issue.

Also post a Hijackthis Log.

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I am not understanding your problem. What exactly is the problem? Is it a slow running system OR are you just worried that processes do not add up to 100%?

Nothing stands out in your log......I would certainly remove WeatherBug in Add/remove Programs and then "Fix" its entry`s in HijackThis.

I have been monitoring my processes because it was super slow before. I had to post my log and process jpgs because to me there was NO reason for it to be slow. My CPU is maxin out technically "without" reason. If there is, I can't see or blame it on a particular process.

Accept...when i could close out the only thing i had open, which was one IE window, my CPU usage went from 100% to almost nothing.

While we were trying to figure it out before, I read on another post that someone was having a problem with hardware interrupts...so I just unplugged my printer and it seemed problem was solved. Reinstalled it and i was still good.

I had open: Incredimail, Word, PaintShopPro, MSN messenger, weatherbug, and 3 IE windows. I could work, email and chat like normal.

I dont know if its the new cable modem or what. i just didn't understand that if my CPU usage says 100%, why didn't the usage of ALL the process add up to 100%? Could there be something running that I can't see? Or someone connected it me?

Good to know my HJT doesn't show anything.

The only thing I use msconfig for is to disable startup items. Any services and i use the service tab under admin tools.

will post the actual task manager process list in a min, if i can open it.

Answer this, and please dumb it down for me. On the process2.jpg. It says system 54.05 under CPU....scroll down to the bottom and CPU usage says 100% How????

Steve, whats with the PCTools BHO's but not other references to it? Could that be whats causing high usage while IE is open?

I'd still like to see a screenshot of Task Manager and see what kind of numbers it shows to compare.

Contacting Pc Cillin's tech support. Problem seemed to be ok until I started opening IE pages. I wonder, this problem began with Norton Internet Security 2006. I deleted it and went with Trend. Makes me think that maybe there is a similar undocumented problem with them also. Would hate to think I spent more money in essence for nothing. Thanks again for the help, I would have never got that in a million years.

I wonder if I'm expecting too much out of 2.30Ghz and 1gig of RAM. I know what I was able to do and open before I cannot now. BTW does anyone know how to prevent Media player 11 from hogging all the resources?? If not is there a way to roll back to version 9? On top of all I could do, I could listen to music too, but that is a serious no go at this point.
