I have been asked to bring in a font copied onto a disc to have a larger printing done at Kinkos,that I cannot do on my computer. It is for a display at a museum where I volunteer. I have tried to copy the font but there seems to be no way to do so. I have Windows XP Home edition. I have copied a font preciously on an older computer (Windows 98). Why am I having trouble doing it now? Please help. Time is of the essence. lilart

Which font?

Why can you not copy it (what happens, error message etc)?

The font is "Goudy Old Style". When I right click on the icon, there is no choices to copy or "send to". Only to delete. There is nothing on the tool bar to be able to copy it. Where can I go to copy it, then direct it to my CD drive? "Properties" has nothing. There are no "Options" listed with the Icon. I can bring the sampling of the font up, but that's it. What other info do you need to solve my problem?

lilart, have you tried opening your cd burning software, then pointing to the fonts folder, and selecting the font, that way?

If you go out to the fonts folder, you should also be able to right click and drag the font to where ever, let go of the button, and select copy, from the list.

That appears to be a commercial font, don't you have it on a disk or download?

I think the only site for downloading that font is for $20 or more, I wasn't able to find a free one.

LOL! I am pretty observant. Must be that I see your name and THINK mod.

I didn't realize that you had to pay for the fonts on that site. I checked out 1001freefonts.com and you have to pay there too.

Thanks to all you that answered. I still cannot get the font dragged to the CD burner drive. But I did copy the font on a floppy disc by dragging it to my A: drive in the same way. When trying to drag it to the E:drive I get a message saying E: drive can't be opened. Very exasperating! I'm not interested in paying for a copy on the internet. Any more ideas? If it copied to the floppy, your problem is solved. Seems you have a CD burner software or configuration problem.

hi lilart. I know exactly what you are talking about. It's like there is some little invisible Windows soldier saying, Ahaa! You want to move me do ya! Not on your life!!!"

Here's what I have had to do.

Copy the font to your desktop. Than try and save it to a CD. If that doesn't work, let me know. For some reason, Windows has a stupid unwritten rule that says you can't copy fonts outside of the system. I guess they don't want people giving out their precious fonts to someone other than the user. they might lose money!

Don't right click.
Thats not how fonts are copied.

Use Edit - Copy from within the Fonts folder. It copies just fine, have tried it.

That font is in my system so it's a Windows font as far as I know (XP)

Thanks again. I solved the problem! After I copied the font on a floppy, I went into My Computer and dragged the Afloppy) drive icon over and dumped in on the E: (CD burner) drive. It worked! I was immediately told I had files to save to CD. I went through the process as usual and when I read the CD there was the same file name on it as the floppy. Since I don't want to install it, I won't know whether it works until I take it to Kinkos for my large captions. I hope this dialogue helps someone else when presented with the problem.
