Ok, I have just about a brand new computer. 1gig ram, Intel 3.33 GHz. Its been fast since I've had it, which was about a month ago(if that). Now, When I turn it on, it sits at the Windows XP splash screen with the ticker going back and forth for over 3-4 minutes. When it does finally get to where I can logon, its so slow the welcome music is choppy. It won't play music or video without lag, and this is a computer that I was playing high end video games on just a few days ago.

I had this same sort of problem about a week ago, I did a system restore and it was fine. This is not the case this time. I have also tried removing all the Usb devices, Nothing. I'm running out of ideas on what it could possibly be.

Also as a note, This happened right after a game froze (America's Army). And If I can remember correctly, It happened the last time right around the time I was playing this game. But I have played this game on here fine without problems for weeks. I have tried an uninstall of this game and deleting its file from the prefetch, Nothing.

I am guessing you might have picked up an infection then if you have done the above and done general house cleaning such as disc clean up

one way to find out is to run hijcack this and post the results if you are so inclined.

Click here to download HJTsetup.exe: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTSetup.exe
Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
