I found a old hard drive and want to get it to work,
It wont boot in a old P2, with a windows boot disk, and Windows 98Se. On IDE1 Master is Caviar 2540, (No Jumpers, It did not come with any). IDE secondary master is a 5XCDROM, and a 3.5Floppy A. Ram is three sticks of 64. I did manage to see the windows reformat thing I think it said C:\WINDOWS and told me the path was invalid.. when I tried to FDISK There was something about the DOS partition, So it looked like I would be able to reformat it, I just did not know how to make it bootable, (If possiable I would like to leave the data in tact to see whats on it, as I am cerious by nature.. (I think its because I am too stupid to work dos, to make it bootable),
I also Hooked it up to my AMD 1,000 Mhz, on IDE secondary master, WIndows XP, But windows would not boot, (It took forever and I freaked out and hard reset).. I did see the windows loading page for about 5 mins with the green thing going from left to right, (it did not freeze just would not boot)... Normally windows boots in less then a min.
I can't seem to find the correct jumper setting for the drive, Is this even going to be able to hold windows 98SE? If so Anyone got a good link to get step by step instructions? (I am self taught with everything computers)..
Its a Caviar 2540 "AT compatible Intelligent Drive", 540.8 MB.
