For several weeks now I haven't been able to download/update Windows updates. I have been working with Microsoft Tech Support (via the telephone)for several days now and we haven't been able to correct the problem(s). My question is... can I use the Windows Installation disk to "fix" any problems my machine is having with the downloads/updates? Is there a "fix" option on the Windows disk and am I at risk in using it? I don't want to lose anything on my desktop because it is the way I want it at this time. Thanks for any responses.

Pop thr oem windows disk in and in bios set it to boot up on the cd. Do the install XP option. Don't worry it will search to see if there is a cureent version of XP on the disk. When it tell you that there is a current version on the disk it will ask you if you would like to do a repair. Do the repair. Don't worry. It looks just like a brand new instal but when it is done all your stuff is still there it's just the OS that has changed. Didn't MS suggest this? Make sure you have the Product Key available as it will ask you for it. Good luck. ;)
