I hope this is an easy one. My daughter's laptop (Win XP Home) was both connected to the Internet last night and (I guess) was hibernating when I disconnected the Cat 5 cable from it so I could connect it to another computer. She had been using it quite successfully for days, including going online.

We didn't realize there was a problem until tonight when we tried to get online with FireFox (her preferred app) and the message "server not found" came up. I also tried IE but that failed, too.

My attempts to fix included:

I restored the laptop to a couple days ago but that did not help. Silly me.

I was unable to ping google.com. Perhaps that is not surprising, I don't know. But now you know what I know.

Obviously, some setting(s) changed. I just don't know which one.

Help please...and many thanks in advance!

Bill

Reconnect the cable :) and reboot the computer.

If still not working shut down all the computers; unplug the router; plug in the router; boot computers.
