Hey,

I recently upgraded my internet connection at home from a 128kbs service to a 2.5mbs service in order to play BF2142 and BF2 online, but I seem to be getting the following message during gameplay quite often:

'There is a problem with your connection'

Basically everything seizes up for a couple of seconds (usually enough to get my soldier raked by machinegun fire) and then goes back to normal.

I would have thought a faster connection would have solved this problem, but it persists. I've tested the speed of the connection on a few 'speed test' sites, and I'm definitely getting the 2.5mbs speed. I'm also making sure to choose servers with low latency and no more than 32 players.

Singleplayer runs with no problems, patch 1.10 installed, and everything is up-to-date on my system.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Are you behind a router and if so have you tried opening the ports for the game?

I'm using a wireless router. How do I go about doing that?

Are you connected to it wirelessly or wired?

And bingo was his name o.

I hate to say it bud, but wireless is awful for gaming. The further from the router you are, the more chance of packets are going to be lost which is most likely causing the problem with the connection. Is there any chance you can test it wired to confirm my suspicions?

Will do at lunch today.
Thanks. I had thought that might be the issue.

go to
portforward.com

All you need to know is the model of your router and the login/pass for the admin page of the router.

Also, do you have any cordless phones or other devices that run on a 2.4 Ghz frequency?

Hope that helps,
Van

Well, I plugged a patch cord from the router to the ethernet port on my machine, and played for an hour with no problems.

I guess wireless internet is just not fast/stable enough for games like that. Good to know, because I sure died a lot less this time! :D Makes the games somewhat more enjoyable.

Thanks for your help guys.
