I was going to clone a friends hard drive today but my 20gb drive
was too small....I said to myself ..that can't be..I know she can't
have that much data on her hard drive ( she has a 40 gb drive ).
So I checked and sure enough 27 of the 40 were used...I'm thinking "what the heck".

I found where 22gb were being used.
Under Program Files then MSN folder there are a few other folders.
One is named MSNCOREFILES.PROMO ( with a series of #'s and letters after Promo ).
That folder is using 22gb's of hard drive space.

I searched the net by putting that folder name as my search term.
Found 1 hit with someone wondering why he had the same issue.
Looks like the folder can be deleted according to the post.

I don't use MSN so I don't know what that folder is all about.
Do MSN users have to delete this folder from time to time to get back their HD space ?
Is it needed for MSN to work ?
Can the size of the folder be controlled ?

Any info would be appreciated concerning this folder

It has hidden attributes.
If you don't have your system setup to show ALL files and folders you won't see it.

Can you look again this time include hidden also
When searching click on More Advanced Options and check
Search hidden files and folders

Under my MSN folder I have
3 primary folders
MSNCorefiles
sub folder - 1033
Markets
with 9 numeric folders under Markets
Setup

Total size of MSN folder - approx 13 MBs

Why not just do an uninstall (cleanup any leftovers) and reinstall?

Thanks to those who chimed in to this query.
I'm taking a 40gb drive over there tomorrow to clone her drive.
I'll experiment with this folder after the clone.
No matter what this folder is doing there...22gb is way out of line.

It must be something that doesn't happen to most people or we would see
more post concerning this issue. Unless some people just haven't noticed
that their HD is shrinking rapidly.
