I have Win98SE and I used the control panel to remove some games. It seems to take them out with the "add/remove programs" menu because they don't work anymore, but when I go back to the "add/remove programs", they are still listed. At that point I try to remove the name but can't. Any ideas?

If you have Tweak UI, you can use it to remove those. I have had them before and Tweak UI removed them. If you choose to leave them there, supposedly very little of your hard drive is used for their storage because that is all that remains of the programs, assuming, of course, you were successful in totally removing the programs.
I guess translating this reply can mean "don't worry about them". Good luck.

I'ts usually best to use the games uninstall menu if there is one...If not and I find that if the listings still there in ADD REMOVE... I highlight and remove again...When I do this I am told that the apps already been removed and do I want to remove the reference to it...or words to that effect...sometimes you have to highlight an remove it a couple of times before you get that message...

Failing that do you have a Reg Cleaner with an un-install menu...

EDIT: bufs suggestion of Tweak UI is a better and safer option...

Found this in one of my help folders I keep....

Sometimes you uninstall programs but their listing remains in Add/Remove Programs. This happens most often when you either delete the program without going through the uninstall procedure, you delete it without going through Add/Remove, or the program is just persistent. While several shareware programs exist to purge your Add/Remove list, you can do it yourself by editing the Registry. Go to Start/Run, type REGEDIT in the box to open the Registry Editor, and navigate down the left pane to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Uninstall. Delete the unwanted listing(s), close the Editor, and reboot. Don't delete the wrong keys!

How many times have you tried to uninstall a program using Control Panels’ Add/Remove programs and found out that you just can't get rid of it?
Add/Remove 4Good will enable you to remove these stubborn applications for good. It is intended for Windows users who wish to keep their system clean. It has a slick and easy to use user interface with fast access from the system tray. Misbehaved shareware can be installed without the fear of having it stuck forever in the Add/Remove list. Add/Remove 4Good tries first to uninstall the application and only later (if necessary) forces the application out of the Add/Remove list.
