Hello,

I just purchased a new 5.1 surround sound system for my PC, and I have a 5.1 surround sound card. It's cheap, but it should work. I used to just have desktop stereo speakers, which worked fine. I have plugged the cables correctly into the subwoofer, and then I have tried just about every combination there is of plugging them into the card, but still, only the set of speakers which are plugged into the 3.5mm port named "front" on the card actually produce sound. The rest are silent. I have Rear, Front, Line-in, and Mic-in ports on the card. Why is it only when they are plugged into "front" that they produce sound? Please help!

Thanks, Lex.

I'm afraid I just installed the card and it either automatically updated or used the old drivers from my onboard. Maybe that's why.

Did you get a CD with the card? I would think it would need specific drivers for it to function as 5.1.

If you got a CD with it, install the software from it.

Ok, I will dig out the CDs and give it a go. I'll tell you what happens once I'm done. ^^

I don't think it came with a CD, actually. Anything else I could do to let it play 5.1?

Well, It was a very generic card, but in the Device Manager it appears as :

CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device

It didn't really have a brand or make. As I said, it was very generic. But it was 5.1 (I'm sure, well, "line-in" "front" and "rear" outputs suggest 5.1, right?)

Would it possibly work if I downloaded and installed drivers which were from a different brand e.g. Creative Sound Blaster 5.1, but used them with the card? Perhaps that would give the card the capability to produce 5.1?

Thanks, Lex.

Here, try THIS one....click the download link, save it somewhere you know, and then double click the file once saved. Follow the instructions etc...then you should be able to configure the card...hopefully.

Wow, I love you! Thank you so much! Those drivers worked perfectly, thank you so much. Clear sound out of every speaker. Again, thanks!
