Seems like a silly problem, but I just loaded Norton Works 2004 and after all was done I noted the solitaire game from windows would not show the cards. Any idea what has happened.

Some programs conflict with Windows card games. You haven't told us what Windows version you have and troubleshooting instructions will differ accordingly. If you want to post a HijackThis Scanlog, it will make it easier to offer suggestions.

Unzip HijackThis to a permenant folder, run it and click Scan. Then save the Scanlog and copy/paste the results here.

I can't tell from the startups which program would likely be the source of the conflict. But here are a couple of ways you can proceed to find out.

First, without going on the net, open the Close Programs window (ctrl-alt-del) and end task any likely process EXCEPT Explorer or Systray (the first is required, the second won't be a factor). You can start with the Norton stuff that you recently installed.

Then test Solitaire after each end-task to see if you can isolate the culprit. To restart what you have end-tasked you should reboot.

A second method is to use the System Configuration Utility. This is run by going to Start>Run and entering: msconfig

Under the Startup tab you can de select temporarily whole groups of programs, or even the entire startup group itself for a thorough test. You will have to reboot and work to further isolate the program by gradually re-selecting and deselecting startups until you find which one it is.

Do not leave Scanregistry permanently de-selected. And likewise your antivirus and firewall should not be left permanently de-selected.
