Im cheating this year. No major cooking here. The kids are stuck with lasagna( with killer home made sauce),garlic bread and salad.
At least the salad is different it has kalamata olives and polenta. This year I don't have to drive the messed up freeways because they are all coming here. I figure way spend the day cooking when I could enjoy the fact Im home and not fighting the traffic .HoHoHo

I know enough to get into trouble but not enough to get out

I'm preparing an early Christmas dinner for some friends today, as they will be gone for Christmas. I'm preparing what I call Christmas Stew. I call it that because the first time I made it was at Christmas time, and everyone loved it so much, that we have it every year.

It is composed of floured, sauteed beef, fresh mushrooms, onions, beef stock, artichoke hearts, burgundy, and the secret ingredient, a pinch of dill weed. What a little dill does to beef is unbelievably good. Just before you serve this dish you cover it with refrigerator biscuits of choice, butter the tops, and cover with parmesan cheese, then bake in a 350 degree oven until done, about 15 minutes.

The biscuits turn a kind of bright orange, are crisp on the top, and soggy on the bottom (poor man's dumplings), and there are never leftovers.

Everything here sounds great. Now what am I having? I'm not cooking but my mom comes from Italy and my grandma owned a bar/resturant and as a result my mom cooks enough food for everyone on this site. :D

She usually makes a roast w/gravey; ham; mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, three types of vegetables cooked and raw, at least two jello dishes, rolls and lemon merange pie, pumpkin pie plus a cake. All this is for my mom and dad, husband, older daughter (but eats like a bird), younger daughter, and myself. I then get the "eat, eat, don't you like my food?" "I worked all week for this meal"

After this we then go to my husband's family party. There everyone brings something so who knows.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

I cook every Christmas Eve for family and friends. I vary the menu each year. This year it's as follows:

Cheddar Cheese soup
Caesar salad
English Prime Rib
Yorkshire Pudding (Our British friends will know what this is.)
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Brandied Carrots
Green Beans w/ shallots and dill butter
All with the appropriate sauces.
For dessert: Bake Alaska

And yes I cook it all myself.
