Sluggish internet and Works

703 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  shadowcat
A month or two ago we signed onto DSL service and of course installed a firewall also -- the free ZoneAlarm firewall -- although that follwed a few days later. Since then we have suffered through a progressively slower internet, so now it is slower than it had been via modem! Also, Microsoft Works is now as slow as molasses, even worse than the internet. I have noticed that the TangoManager and vsmon.exe together comprise 100% CPU usage always when you look in the Task Manager Processes (although each one's percentage fluctuates by the second or so). I suspect this isn't all that is causing us misery, but I know so little about these things...

Here is my HijackThis log:

Hello and welcome to TSG! :D

Download Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware -- install both programs.

Download all updates for each program before running them (for Spybot, click on "Search for Updates" then look for the button that says "Unido(Europe)" -- change it to the USA mirror site.)

In AdAware, after updating it, click "Start", click on the circle (making sure it is green or has a green check in it) for "Custom Scanning Options", click on "Customize" next to it, click on the circle for "Scan Within Archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep Scan Registry", "Scan my IE Favorites for banned URLs" and "Scan my Hosts file". Click "Proceed".

Now, check/click on the circle "Activate In depth Scan" and hit "Next".

Have the programs fix anything they find. Make sure youreboot after Spybot then start Adaware (or vice versa, doesn't matter which program you use first).

Now, post your new HiJack Log.
