Cookiegal,

I have done as you said and still I am getting the same message. The Internet security level for this zone now has the Default level greyed out. I cannot select that. I did before as you specified and changed the custom settings. What else can I try???

Things are still running as slow as before. There has been no improvement to the system. What can I do???

Birdman
Hi cookiegal,

Just wanted to let you know that I just did a scan with Search & Destroy and found 3 entries that I selected to be fixed. The more concerning was 13 critical errors whilst usings ADAware. Looks like I still have some serious problems.

In Regards to Seach and Destroy I didn't actually get the details down. I seem to recall that of the 3 picked up 2 were common ones that I have seen before. One wasn't. Sorry I couldn't offer anymore info.

Hi cookiegal,

This computer isn't that old. I had it upgraded propably 9 months ago with a new CPU, RAM, motherboard and hard drive. There are 2 user accounts, but I always log into the my own account. I never log into the other one. Currently my specs are:

Intel Pentium 2.8 GHZ
Nvidia Geforce 6600
1 gig of RAM

I am still experiencing this slowness. It is really slow. Is this in anyway corrupting my system??? Is there anymore I can do or should I be trying to find a techo that can take the computer away and figure out the problem and how to resolve it???

Hello Rollin' Rog,

0) The problem began around 17th of January. I just had a look at the infections log on AVG Anti-Spyware and on that day I had an infection "Trojan.Delf.bcg", "Trojan.crack.h", "Logger.Alexa.a" and "Trojan.Obfuscated.ob".

1) The computer boots up at the same speed as before. There is no difference in the speed on the boot up. Once it is in Windows that when everything slows down. I just tried opening Outlook and it took 3 minutes to open up.

2) All programs are affected. They do load up, but they are extremely slow. Even when I try to show hidden icons (bottom right) it takes up to 2 minutes. When I am in a game however there is no slowness experienced. Only affects the loading up of applications.

3) YES the behaviour is the same for both online and offline.

4) I am not too sure about this. I must admit I have not taken too much notice on this.

5) System Idle process is the only high CPU usage. Ther rest have 05, but normal is 01. Memory usage however is most taken up by vsmon.exe and firefox.

6) When I go and look under device manager I can see 2 Primary IDE channel settings and not just one. Here are the settings of the first one:

Device 0: Transfer mode - DMA if available AND Current transfer mode - Ultra DMA mode 5.

Device 1: Transfer mode - DMA if available AND Current transfer mode - not applicable

Here are the settings for the second one:

Device 0: Transfer mode - DMA if available AND Current transfer mode - Ultra DMA mode 2.

Device 1: Transfer mode - DMA if available AND Current transfer mode - Ultra DMA mode 4.

Physical Memory

Total: 1048044
Available: 567548

Commit Charge

Total: 385960
Limit: 2518388
Peak: 647908

Thanking you kindly

Hi Rollin' Rog,

Are you getting a lot of these "disk" errors in the System log, or is this just a one of a kind?

Have not noticed. I would say this would be very rare.

Do you have any USB drives attached? -- try simplifying the hardware setup as much as you can.

How do I know if I have any and if so how do I simplify the setup?

If you open the case -- do test to see if the fan is working and take the time to blow out any accumulated dust.

Have cleaned the fan (all 3). They were working and I have cleaned out as much dust as possible.

By the way, is this computer networked? And if so, do the same problems occur if it is disconnected from the router and the network?

No it is not.

I am still getting the slowness even though I have cleaned the fans. Would defragging help???

Hi Rollin' Rog,

I just loaded up the speedfan and noticed the following readings:

Temp1: -55C
Temp2: -2C
Temp3: 31C
HD0: 44C (would this be the problem????)

Fan1: 2163-2192 RPM (no readings for Fan2 or 3)
