Slow startup, that imortal problem

1580 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  CLOUDYMOON
Hello.
Glary utilities show that EVENT LOG and PLUG AND PLAY both take over 40 seconds to load, although they are not large files and I have been to EVENT VIEWER and deleated old info, and have also Disabled the loading of all the "junk" i could find, again through Glary utilities (have been using it for years with no side effects).

Does anyone have any suggestions about this please ?

The Acer eMachines eM350 10.1" netbook comes with a wimpy Intel Atom N450 1.66 GHz processor and only 1 GB of RAM, so you can expect it to have the speed and performance of a turtle.
Replacing its 1 GB module with a 2 GB module may improve speed and performance a bit, but don't expect a drastic improvement.

We don't know how you use that netbook and what's installed in it and how many running processes it has, so there could be several reasons for the slowness and long startup time.

HI nie der nsill(y)

HI FRANK
does not xp have a option to use some of the non-ram memory to act as RAM, as my tower does and would that help him with speed ?

As well (think i pm'ed you about this) many folks with a slow machine resort to registry cleaners that have dangers, but it is my understanding there are some cleaners that are not dangerous, and do speed up the machine-is cc cleaner safe?? in your opinion
I use auslogics defragger which cleaned stuff XP defragger never went near, speed enhancement was not a mirage.

adware removal tool increased speeds after CNET bugged me
when the tool removed their 2 pups.

also, i have found time and again and been told others have witnessed same on their machines, when i move stuff in and out on my XP it is a great help to restart it several times

Lastly it is my experience it is not a good thing to make a lot of changes to a computer all at once, after a new install, I always restart my machine and that seems to smooth things out. (n)

Thank you for your effort and advice. I must fight on and perhaps delete EVENT LOG although there are warnings that it needs to be there, but from what I can see, it is diagnostic, not functional.
Thanks again.

I do keep on top of defragmentation and general housekeeping et. I suppose I shall just have to switch on 3 minutes earlier and make a cup of tea, as the machine is fast enough, once it has booted.
Thanks again.
HELLO nie der nsil

I wanted to tell you sometimes the smallest program, like "Fan temp" i think it was called, just refuses to join the parade of my other down loads and run smooth and once deleted i have a fast machine again.
tho a bunch of wonderful folks made it, Spybot Search and destroy ran great till i clicked something in there and again my machine slowed till i deleted the whole thing.

you can get a whole new mother board and faster chip for very little if money is not a issue.

I addressed part of this post to Flavallee about CC cleaner
but no reply, I looked at that thing and was afraid to use it:eek:

you look awfully young to be a computer user, or are you the older guy, just kidding :)
good luck to you both.
