Slow speeds with powerline adapter

I am getting 179 ping and .53 mbps download. I am using the brite view BVP-5100D powerline adapter.

I get 250+ mbps download using wifi.

Do you get this problem with both powerline adapters plugged into outlets on the same circuit in the same room? If so, they seem to be defective.

Make sure it is plugged in directly to a wall socket and not into an extension cord or power strip.
