Slow opening photo folders

My computer is unbelievably slow opening photos from my Kodak DX4900 camera. It takes forever to view the photos on the camera. It's also very slow to open folders on the computer which contain a lot of photos. We want to put all the folders from a certain project/trip, etc. in the same folder and sometimes there are over 100 pix. Any suggestions for speeding things up? Is there any way to change the default for photo folders to list instead of thumbnail?

Loads more Ram.

Seriously . . what are the specs of your sytem? Most relevant would be RAM, Hard Drive (Used and Free space), CPU, and Operating System
