I know this sounds similar but if you read closely you will notice that they are two very different problems. Please, since the answer to the similar question did not address this problem, reinstate this question so that I can get this answered by the great help I get on this web site.

Hi,
I recently reinstalled WinNT so that I could have a clean install on my Dell. I also installed all the Service Packs(6a) and critical updates from Microsoft web site.

I have a peer to peer network with a Win98 and Win95 computer along with the WinNT and most of the networking components are 3Com. When I connect to another computer from my NT computer it is very fast (1 second) unless I am dialed into my ISP
using my modem. When connected to DUN, the network seems to check there before it connects to my peer to peer network. This slows my connection to another computer considerably. Why is that and can I stop it? It is really irritating to wait 10 seconds when it normally connects in one.

Thanks

How many network adaptors do you have installed? You should have only three: your modem, your NIC, and DUN as a logical adaptor. I beleive NT has the option of setting one adaptor as "primary". Usually the primary adaptor is the that is used to connect to the Internet (i.e. your modem). Your system would query the modem first, and then the NIC, when connecting to the local network. This would cause a slowdown.
