slow connection
i recently bought a new router(linksys e1200v2) and finished setting up everything. with the wired connection on my laptop im getting 100 mbs after connected to the router my internet speed then became 54 mbs but my desktop and phone are getting are getting just around the 100 mark. the only way i get 100 mbs on my laptop is if i plug the ethernet cable from my router directly to laptop.
i dont know if this could have anything to do with it but my previous router had the exact wifi name and password as this new network and i had my laptop running on a static ip(its not staric on this one) also when i had the older router at the time i had a 54mb connection but now its 100mbs
i've tried forgetting network and joining back, disabling wifi adapter and enabling again, reinstall drivers and restart
any help would be appreciated thank you

the download speed is between 9-12 mb/s
i used ookla speed on my computer and i also used the app on my phone
i used the speed test that comes with linksys connect and the one that comes with the port scan tool

- Download speed you pay for through your ISP.
- Download speed when connected directly to the modem/router (assuming this is a combination unit given by your ISP).
- Download speed when connected via wireless to the router.

Your router and adapter are each 802.11n 300 Mbps? If either is 150 Mbps that could explain the actual data transmission of 54 Mbps.
As Terry said, it sounds like at least one of the devices (router or network adapter) uses 802.11g.

No. As I said above the maximum actual data throughput for 802.11g is about 26 or 28 Mbps (in ideal conditions). If you have an 802.11g adapter there is no way that you are getting 54 Mbps with Speedtest.net or any other reasonable measurement tool.so is the 802.11g causing the internet to be restricted to 54 because the adapter on my laptop is 802.11g
I don't know what that second one is measuring in MBps. The OOKLA Speedtest is as reliable as any IMO.
so do you have any suggestions to try now
