Heya guys
Since my line was upgraded to "8mb" from "2mb" my d/l and u/l speeds are pittiful (60kbs & 20kbs respectively). When I was on 2mb before I would achieve speeds of about 1.1mb down (I am some distance from the exchange. Both my hosting company & my Telephone supplier (British Telecom) have tested my line, and the engineer that came to my house tested the line and said everything with the line was working fine, but they would increase the GAIN just to make sure.

I am still unable to reach any faster speeds and so I am tempted to point the finger at my Wireless Modem/Router, a Belkin F5D7632-4 Version 2000, is it possible it cannot cope with the higher speed? The details for it's line report are:

Latency Type Interleave
Line Coding Trellis On

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 896 Kbps 448 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate 1056 Kbps 844 Kbps
Noise Margin 11.8 dB 13.0 dB
Line Attenuation 49.0 dB 24.5 dB
Output Power 12.4 dBm 16.1 dBm

I tried a firmware update but it buggered up my wireless connection abilities (I think it seems to be an known issue) and so I am kinda stuck about what else to try!

If it worked at 2mbit, and now fails at 8mbit, I'd certainly be tempted to take a closer look at the modem. Did the ISP connect a different modem for their tests?

The Router/Modem is one I bought 12 months ago, I have had broadband since it's infantile birth so the router I got when I joined my ISP was an old old piece of equipment.

The Engineer didn't connect through a modem, he just ran line tests at both the exchange end, from the junction box, and from the first contact in my home.

it could be a router problem - I'm sure johnwill will be able to advise better - But I know you needed to upgrade modems etc for the higher speeds
or it may just need a firmware update

Post exact make and models of all the kit - maybe able to find out on the web

Belkin F5D7632-4 Version 2000.
I'm reasonably sure a firmware upgrade would do it, but the one listed on the belkin site is rubbish, and judging by it's Version number (1.01.0 or similar) it is actually older than the shipment ware on the router.

I'm with Demon Home Office, I'm sure it's not the service or the BT line.

Unfortunately that gives a "Bad file headers" error.

I will keep snooping Belkin's site & the net and probably keep badgering them on the phone.
